Photography on Lockdown

With Barbados on its second lockdown / national pause as we are calling it this time, practicing photography became a little difficult. So, I decided while I was confined to my home, I would find ways to keep myself, and my camera, busy. I also spent a little time going through some older photos and livening them up a little just so I could keep my editing skills sharp as well.

MACRO SHOT

One of my favourite photography genres, it is also one that I hardly spend time on. So, I decided to have a little fun. With most businesses closed landscapers had not been able to visit my home and weed started to grow amidst the grass with beautiful, yet small, purple flowers. This became my first target.

If it looks familiar it was the thumbnail for an earlier post.

THE GOAT

Unfortunately, the title does not stand for the Greatest of All Time, it is an actual goat. I found this guy shortly after a small ease in the national pause. I was driving to the beach and noticed him just relaxing in the grass with the sun behind him. I just loved the edge lighting the setting sun created.

SAM LORD'S CASTLE

Getting a little more adventurous, I captured this image of a historic building, Sam Lord’s Castle. This site was once owned by an infamous land pirate who would lure vessels to the jagged reef causing them to crash, where he would then loot the ships for all their bounty. It later became a hotel but was lost to fire in 2010. What makes this photo different is it is an H.D.R. image, this means you can see more detail in the shadow and highlight areas due to some processing which makes it look closer to what the human eye can see.

ANOTHER MACRO

Another Macro photograph of a flower growing in my yard. If you want to learn more about macro photography, I will post a link here soon that will take you to a post on macro photography, or you can just keep checking this blog for my next post.

PANORAMIC SHOT

This photograph is six photographs merged into one. Unfortunately, the final size is 65 megabytes, so I could not put it on this site. If you have not heard of panoramic photos before, it is stitching together of multiple photos to show a scenery that might be typically too wide to capture in one shot while staying close enough to maintain good detail and not using an ultra-wide lens that will cause distortion.

The photo was taken at Harry Smith, St. Philip, If you would like to know where that is, follow the link to the Google Maps pin. You can also follow this link for more on Panoramic Photography.

AGED PHOTO

This photo was also taken at the old Sam Lord’s Castle, it was edited to give it more of an aged look.
